The college admission process should be about applying to schools that will be a “good match” for you. What I mean by “good match” is finding a college that will allow you to be your best self. That may very well be the college you have always wanted to attend or it could be one that is not yet on your radar or even one that you are not interested in at the moment. Just like your classmates, colleges come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities, and there are many valuable gems hidden behind the popular crowd.
My hope is that by getting to know you and by working together through personality inventories, future career inventories, and by listening to your stories, I will be able to show you a list of universities that fit your goals. You have worked hard these last few years not only in academics, but also outside the classroom, and we need to find a school that not only supports the level of rigor you are accustomed to, but one that will stretch and grow you into who you and your family believe you can be. At the same time, universities are looking for students who will support, stretch, and contribute to the university’s goals of making a lasting impact on the world.
Hiring an independent educational consultant will add much value to your college search journey. If you are already using resources that develop a list of matches for you, you are ahead of the curve. However, using an IEC will give you a personal touch that will make a difference in your level of confidence that you have made the right choice. I will get to know you in ways that a computer will not, and I will be able to present you with unbiased options not statistically skewed or subject to advertising dollars. While I encourage using your high school counselor as a resource, I will be able to work with you in a more meaningful and involved capacity. My plan is to walk alongside you from beginning to end, from initial thoughts to application submissions, scholarship options, and choosing which offers to accept.
